Rodley Nature Reserve
Interactive tools and membership functions for green space
Rodley Nature Reserve is a wetland oasis in Leeds, located between the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
Rodley Nature Reserve is one of our most longstanding and valued customers and the Trustees at RNR are genuinely lovely people.
We were approached in 2015 to develop a new website which would cater for the growing number of visits to the site through mobile devices.
Showcasing rich diversity
The reserve already had branding in place from our previous work with the client.
With this we set about designing a website that showcase the rich diversity of wildlife on the reserve, providing daily information on sightings, information on where to sight certain species and detail upcoming events.
Virtual tour functions via galleries and interactive maps
The site itself makes great use of original photography taken at the reserve.
We had access to quite a large archive of images, including wildlife, environments, events and people, so we certainly weren’t struggling for assets, in fact, it the problem we had deciding what to leave out!
The site features an interactive map on the Habitats and Species page, which uses rollover hotspots to serve information on the different locations around the reserve.
Live data feeds
The reserve is rich with interesting content that needed displaying around the site.
Visitors often send in images they have captured on visits to the reserve, so we included a gallery and a means to submit images for consideration.
The home page features a latest sightings section detailing what, where and when. On the Sightings page, keen twitchers can browse sightings records for the last year.
This is another site we have built on a WordPress platform and is feature rich.
It’s well worth a visit to both the website and the reserve.
