Project insight

L1 Performance is a truly impressive, leading-edge gym, located at Wellington Place, Leeds and recently opened its doors in the second quarter of 2016.

L1 provides group classes alongside one-to-one personal training.

Orange Crush was asked to develop a brand identity to be used across all communication channels and design and develop a website that would reflect L1’s high-end, exclusive position. The website provides the functionality to allow payments and advanced bookings to be taken for both classes and personal training sessions.

Brand Development

The brief was clear and simple. ‘Keep it clear and simple ‘

We set to work by undertaking visual research and looked into the L1 proposition for ideas. We looked at the structured exercise programmes and the close connections between the L1 team and gym members. The word ‘fit’ came into play quite often and we began to think of a structure that connected and its component parts fitting tightly together.

This developed into the hexagonal framework around the logo, which is an adaptation of L and 1.


Bespoke website design & Development

The website has bespoke and unique e-commerce functionality. This functionality powers the delivery of L1 services to its market.

Users generate their account and purchase credits, a form of virtual currency within the system. They can then spend these tokens to book slots on classes. A class timetable is available each week, with the classes and associated instructors shown in detail.

This event registration functionality presented many technical development challenges. Providing a slick user-experience is critical, and the back-end management needs to be spot-on.
